My grandfather died while I was waiting for you

I used to make custom blankets. I stopped doing that. I stopped, because people are the worst people you will ever meet.

A few months ago, I made three custom blankets for a woman I met at a craft fair. When it was time to pick them up, she stopped responding to my calls and messages. I was out $60 just in fabric. I needed what she was going to pay me. I was going to use it to go spend the last moments with one of the dearest men I have ever known. I wanted one last chance to say goodbye. I wanted him to know how much I loved him and that no matter what biology says, he would always be "Grandpa". If you read my blog regularly, you know that blood has never mattered and my family doesn't care about genetics. That carried-over into my family of procreation. (I think that is what it is called.)

This wasn't the first time that I got stiffed, but it was the last. I quit. No more dealing with people who don't understand what I am saying. No more dealing with changed minds. Many of these custom pieces can not be resold. Do you know how hard it is to get people to pay deposits on these things!? If I can't find someone to buy it, I am just stuck with it; not to mention the cost of materials I purchased for the piece. If you order a custom piece, ANY custom piece, at least go look at it! I get not paying for inferior work, but someone paid to make that thing JUST FOR YOU. The least you could do is show up! Same goes for direct sellers. If someone orders something for you, they spent money expecting you to pay them. When you don't, they have two options: wait for you to pay them, or find a new buyer. That isn't always easy.

While I am at it, if you make an appointment, keep it. If you are anything like me, you occasionally purchase things from people on exchange sites/groups. Just show up! Many people are selling things because they actually need the money for something; like gas to go see a dying loved one. Most of us understand if it is something that won't work for you. Say so, but don't just not show up.

As always, thanks for reading!
